The tank refill function of fpControl

Introduction to the topic

With the tank refill function of fpControl you can refill the integrated tank of the generator with diesel fuel from a separate additional tank.

Functional description of the tank refill

The tank refill function has two different operating modes:

  1. You can configure the multifunction output 2 (5 A) of the »fpControl GC-S« directly as an output for the external fuel pump. The output then switches the fuel pump on and off depending on the filling level supplied by the CAN bus tank sensor.
  2. You can configure one of the multifunction inputs of the »fpControl GC-S« so that you can switch the tank refill function on and off via this input. In this case the multifunction output (5 A) of the »fpControl GC-S« is automatically configured as an output for the external fuel pump. The output then switches the fuel pump on and off depending on the status of the digital input AND the filling level supplied by the CAN bus tank sensor.
    The procedure in detail: The »fpControl GC-S« evaluates the status of the multifunctional input. If this input has the status »0«, the tank refill function is switched off. If it has the status »1«, the multifunction output for the external fuel pump is switched on when the threshold for »refilling« is reached. If the threshold for »stop refilling« is reached, the output is switched off.
    There is one special feature in this case: When you switch on the digital input, the external fuel pump is switched on in any case and the integrated tank of the generator is filled to a level of 100 %. This takes place regardless of the filling level supplied by the CAN bus tank sensor.

Configuring the tank refill

Configuring the tank refill function using the service menu of the »fpControl CP-G«.

Configuring the multifunction output 2 (5 A)

To get the multifunction output switching the external fuel pump the corresponding profile must be assigned.

Requirement: To set the mode of the multifunction output 2 you must enter the service password or have admin rights while the function is being called.

Function call: service > enter service-code > multifunc. outputs > mode of output 2 > external fuelpump

Step by step guide

Setting the mode of the multifunction output 2 to “external fuelpump”:

  • Open menu “service”.
  • Enter the service password.
  • Select “multifunc. outputs” and confirm.
  • Select “mode of output 2” and confirm.
  • Select “external fuelpump” and confirm.

Result: The multifunction output 2 of the »fpControl GC-S« is set to “external fuelpump”.

Configuring one of the multifunction inputs

The multifunction inputs of the »fpControl GC-S« can perform different functions. To get an digital input switching the tank refill function the corresponding profile must be assigned to input 1 or 2.

Function call: service > enter service-code > multifunc. inputs > mode of input 1 (2) > ext. fp on out 1 (2)

Step by step guide

  • Open menu “service”.
  • Select “multifunc. inputs” and confirm.
  • Select “mode of input 1” (respectively “mode of input 2”) and confirm.
  • Select “ext. fp on out 2” and confirm.
  • Select “confirm”.

Result: The multifunction input 2 of the »fpControl GC-S« is set to switch the tank refill function on and off.

Setting the switch-on and switch-off threshold values for the filling level

You can set the minimum level at which the external fuel pump should be switched on and the maximum level at which it should be switched off.

Requirement: To set the switch-on and switch-off threshold, the CAN bus tank sensor must be connected to the »fpCAN«.

Function call: generator > fuel thresholds > ext. FP on (off)

Step by step guide

  • Open menu “generator”.
  • Select “fuel thresholds” and confirm.
  • Select “ext. FP on” and confirm.
  • Set the switch-on threshold between its specified minimum and maximum values and confirm.
  • Select “confirm”.

Repeat the steps for the switch-off value.

Result: The switch-on and switch-off threshold for the external fuel pump are stored.
