Event 142 – Red Stop Lamp (RSL)

Event Description

Event from the ECU of the Diesel Engine: »Red Stop Lamp«. Serious errors that require the engine to be stopped are indicated in the J1939 Diagnostic Message (DM1) with the »Red Stop Lamp«.

The »Red Stop Lamp« is activated by the engine control unit to indicate severe fault conditions or hazards that require an immediate engine stop. Here are some possible triggers for the activation of the red stop lamp:

  • Critical engine faults: The red stop lamp can be activated when there are severe problems with the engine that necessitate an immediate stop. Examples could include catastrophic oil pressure drop, severe engine damage, complete fuel system failure, or other life-threatening engine conditions.
  • Electrical malfunctions: If the engine control unit detects a severe electrical fault that compromises the safe operation of the engine, the red stop lamp can be activated. This could indicate a short circuit, high voltage loss in the system, damaged electrical connection, or other potentially dangerous electrical disturbances.
  • Safety systems: The engine control unit can activate the red stop lamp to indicate issues with safety-related systems that may require an immediate engine stop.

Please note that the exact triggers for the activation of the red stop lamp may vary depending on the engine manufacturer, model, and specific implementation. For precise information, refer to the engine documentation or contact the manufacturer of the engine control unit for specific details about your engine.

The DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) consisting of SPN (Suspect Parameter Number) and FMI (Failure Mode Identifier) delivers specific information about a faulty property of the Diesel Engine. Look at the SPN/FMI Diagnostic Trouble Codes of the Hatz Diesel Engine 4H50 for more information.
