fpControl – Cold start aid

Note: This function is not available with every generator. Check in each individual case whether the function can be used with your generator.

Introduction to the topic

You can preheat the diesel engine with a cold start aid. This is necessary if the generator is started at an ambient temperature of less than -20 °C. To protect the engine, it makes sense to always preheat to an engine temperature of 70 °C before starting.

Functional description

If the temperature of the engine is below a defined minimum value when the start button on the »fpControl CP-G« is pressed, the »fpControl GC-S« switches on the cold start aid. The engine is preheated to a defined temperature. Once this temperature is reached, the »fpControl GC-S« switches off the cold start aid and continues the starting process with normal preheating.

Note: The cold start aid cannot be skipped or canceled.

Configuration

You can configure the cold start aid to adapt the function to different requirements.

You can specify that the engine should be started without a cold start aid.
You can determine whether the cold start aid should preheat the engine using a flame starter or an external heater.

You can set additional parameters for preheating with an external heater:

You can adjust the minimum engine temperature from which the cold start aid should preheat the engine,
and the maximum engine temperature at which the cold start aid should be switched off.
You can set the duration for which the external heating is active.

Requirement

For the configuration of the cold start aid you must enter the service password or have admin rights while the function is being called.

Software concept

On the first page the »cold-start-aid« menu gives you an overview of the options that you can adjust. You can use the panel’s arrow keys to navigate through the list. Each menu item takes you to a sub-page on which you can adjust a setting.

Controls

Hardkey	Function
	Use the panel’s arrow-up key to move up through the softkeys on one side and to increase parameter values. A long press on the key activates the rapid increase of the parameter value.
	Use the arrow-down key to move down through the softkeys on one side and to decrease parameter values. A long press on the key activates the rapid decrease of the parameter value.
	Use the start/stop key to execute the action of a selected softkey and to confirm parameter values.

Available operating modes

always off	The engine is started without a cold start aid.
flamestart-plug	The cold start aid preheats the engine using a flame plug.
aux. heating	The cold start aid preheats the engine with an external heater.

Parameters for preheating with an external heater (operating mode »aux. heating«)

lower temperature [°C]	Minimum engine temperature from which the cold start aid preheats the engine [-35 °C <= value <= 100 °C].
upper-temperature [°C]	Maximum engine temperature at which the cold start aid is switched off [-35 °C <= value <= 100 °C].
delay [min]	The external heating is active for the set time, even if the upper-temperature has been reached and the generator has already started [0 min <= value <= 60 min].
