The VS-Generator-System usually consists of multiple components with associated firmware. All components are members on the fpCAN-Bus.

During the manufacturing process each VS-Generator-System is tested at Fischer Panda and all components are updated with the latest firmware versions. From time to time the system receives additional features or improvements. So that these can be used in existing systems a firmware update is required.
A new firmware is loaded via the fpControl Software Update. First, the update files are transferred from a PC/Laptop to the existing or an additional fpControl Panel using a mini USB cable. The update files can then be transferred to the fpControl Generator Control, that distributes the update to the bus members.
Since newly introduced functions often only work when several components interact, always a complete, tested set of update files (an update package) should be installed. The current update package can be requested from the Fischer Panda Service (Update packages).
It is also possible and in some cases necessary, to update the software by transferring the application software file directly to the bus member using a PC/Laptop. This can be done as shown in the example of the Hybrid Charger – Software Update.
